Bharali bhendi. Bharli Bhendi is a widely popular Maharashtrian dish. Bharli Bhendi as called in Marathi language, means stuffed Lady Fingers/Okra. The basic ingredient for it's stuffing in Maharashtrian cuisine, is generally grated fresh coconuts.

  1. It's 3 tbsp of Oil.
  2. It's 20 of Okra or bhendi(small around 20).
  3. You need to taste of Salt.
  4. Prepare 1/4 cup of Roasted peanut powder.
  5. It's 1/4 cup of Grated coconut.
  6. Prepare leaves of Coriander.
  7. You need 1/2 tbsp of Garam masala.
  8. Prepare 1 tbsp of Chilli powder.
  9. It's 1/2 tbsp of Turmeric powder.

Bharli bhendi as its known in Marathi is non-soggy, non-mushy recipe. The mixture of peanuts and grated fresh coconut is used for stuffing. The stuffing adds to the aroma and taste of this recipe. The recipe is quick and easy to make.

Bharali bhendi step by step

  1. Make Stuffing masala (to be ground coarsely) 2 to 3 garlic chopped + ¼ cup chopped coriander leaves (dhania patta) + ¼ cup roasted peanuts (moongphali)..
  2. Without adding water coarsely grind and keep this mixture aside..
  3. In a plate, take the ground mixture along with grated coconut, 2 tsp chilli powder, 1/2 tsp garam masala powder and salt as per taste..
  4. Mix the stuffing mixture very well..
  5. Now stuff this mixture in each bhindi very well..
  6. Heat 3 tbsp oil and add the stuffed okra. stir the okra well. now cover the pan tightly with a lid and cook the bhindi. do check in between and if the mixture getting too browned, then sprinkle some water (about 1 to 2 tbsp water). stir, cover and continue to cook..

Bharali bhendi is prepared by filling stuffing of spicy peanut and coconut stuffing. This is a bit tedious process but the end result is just awesome. This can be a good option for lunch box.
